Court Session The fourth and final session of the Supreme Court this year wall open before Mr Justice Macarthur at 10 a.m. today with the presentation of indictments on criminal charges. Directory Closed New entries for the 1967 Christchurch telephone directory closed last Friday. The directory will be issued next March, to coincide with the cut-over of the Kaiapoi automatic exchange. All Kaiapoi subscribers will be included in the city section of the directory. Postponed Wet weather during the week-end has forced the Canterbury Horticultural Society to postpone its hill and rock garden competition until October 18. Judging was to have been done yesterday. The secretary (Mr J. C. Fraser) said the society had not considered it fair to the exhibitors to have the competition yesterday after the wet weather. Cloudy Day The cloudy weather of the week-end continued in Christchurch yesterday and with a fresh southerly wind, the temperature at Harewood did not exceed 50 degrees. A temperature of 47 degrees was recorded at Harewood at 6 a.m. and at 9 a.m., and the maximum was registered in the afternoon. Drizzle fell up to 9 a.m., bringing the rainfall in the 24 hours to that time to .26in. A temperature of 51 degrees was recorded at the Botanic Gardens at 3 p.m., and the temperature gauge on the Government Life building showed the same temperature at 4.30 p.m. Post Office Talks Postmasters in the Christ church district and branch controlling officers of the Chief Post Office will hold a two-day conference tomorrow and on Thursday. They will discuss management, mutual problems, and development in the Post Office, and will be addressed by the Chief Postmaster (Mr M. E. Wilson, the Regional Engineer (Mr H. W Wilkinson) and other postal officials. Mr Wilson said 40 would attend the conference. Another 40 would attend a similar conference next week. Windows Rattled An earthquake with a strong east to west rolling motion was felt in Wairoa on Sunday night. It was of sufficient intensity to cause windows and household objects to rattle noisely. It was also felt in Napier. The earthquake was centred about 140 miles from Wellington and had a magnitude of about 5.1 on the Richter scale.—(P.A.) Graduate Secretaries If there is sufficient support, the Christchurch Technical Institute will start a course on secretarial practice for university graduates. The principal (Mr D. W. Lyall) said at a meeting of the board of governors last evening that there had been inquiries from graduates who wished to be secretaries and others who wanted to know rudiments of shorthand and typewriting and office management. Asked how these could be taught in 10 weeks, Mr Lyall said it was astonishing what a mature person with an objective could achieve in full-time study.
