NAG. MAY USE DC6
Proposal One Of Necessity (N Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Sept. 28. N.A.C. may use the last of the R.N.Z.A.F.’s veteran DC6 aircraft to augment its four Viscounts, according to the airline's deputy generalmanager (Mr L. L. Ford). The owners of the 16-year-old DC6s before the R.N.Z.A.F. were Air New Zealand and the British Commonwealth Pacific Airlines. “The last Air Force DC6 is becoming surplus and we are looking at the possibility of using this,” said Mr Ford. “We would not take the DC6 from choice, but it is a matter of keeping an available serviceable aircraft in use in the country.” Until recently, N.A.C. was looking at the possibility of negotiating for an Aer Lingus Viscount to augment the corporation’s fleet. Mr Ford said short-haul jets would be brought into service on New Zealand's main routes by the end of 1968. The first of N.A.C.'s Viscounts would be sent for a major overhaul in mid-1969. N.A.C., by obtaining the DC6, was looking at “getting some more capacity” in the airline before the introduc- . tion of jet aircraft.
