Modern techniques tn identifying minerals were explained to the Canterbury Mineral and Lapidary Club by Mr D. Jones. He illustrated his lecture with thin-sectioned specimens reproduced through the polarising lens of a micro-projec-tor. By rotating slides through 90 degrees Mr Jones showed in “spectacular multi-colour” some of the mineral and crystal content to be determined. There were 145 members present
