NATIONAL LEAGUE

Clubs Seek Meeting

Three senior soccer clubs —Technical Old Boys, Christchurch City and Rangers—will ask the Canterbury Football Association to convene a special meeting of all club delegates to discuss national league.

The clubs want the meeting to be held before October 29, when the N.Z.F.A. has asked for delegates from the four main provincial associations —Auckland, Wellington, Canterbury and Otago—to meet in Christchurch to formulate a policy on national league. Canterbury and Wellington support a provincial league, and Auckland and Otago want a club-based league. The C.F.A. has been asked to hold a special meeting so that the clubs can “acquaint the C.F.A. of our thoughts on the national league.” The letter says: “We appreciate that in the past we have given the C.F.A. a mandate to negotiate for a national league, but never officially have we outlined our views whether we require club or provincial league.”
