Championships On Best Tracks Sought

, (N.Z. Press Association) < DUNEDIN. I The Otago Athletics Centre ! will again attempt to have the New Zealand senior and 1 women’s track and field cham- 1 pionships restricted to centres ' with all-weather track facill- ’ ties. j The centre, at a meeting i last night, decided to make 1 this demand in a remit to the annual meeting of the New 1 Zealand Amateur Athletic As- 1 sociation to be held in No- i vember. 1 Sponsoring the remit, Mr L. T. Bradshaw asked why 1 athletes seeking Games selection should have to compete ' on tracks which were not the very best. Within another three or four years New Zea- 1 land would probably have six all-weather tracks. The president, Mr J. D. 1 Hair, said Otago had previ- <

ously supported and instigated attempts to have the national championships restricted to all-weather tracks. Mr R. P. Welsh moved another remit for the N.Z.A.A.A. annual meeting calling for negotiations between the association and Australia to arrange an annual contest between the two countries. He further recommended that if these negotiations failed a New Zealand team should be sent to the Australian championships. Mr W. Holley, Otago’s resident delegate on the N.Z.A.A.A., said the association was most anxious that meetings between Australia and New Zealand should be introduced. "Unfortunately the main problem is to get the support of the Australian people,” be said.
