FIRE BOARD MEMBERS

City Council Reservation

The City Council last evening agreed to a suggested change in representation on the Christchurch Metropolitan Fire Board, but only if it has an observer with the right to speak but not to vote when the council has only two members.

The proposal, made by the Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr Seath) is that for alter* nating three-year periods commencing after the 1968 local body elections the City Council’s representation be reduced from three to two and that one nominee from all the other contributing local bodies except Waimairi be appointed. For the remainder of the current term, a person nominated by those local bodies would be allowed to sit as an observer without voting rights.
