Repair Of Railway (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) AMMAN, Sept. 19. Work will begin soon on rebuilding the Hejaz railway, built by Germany for the Turks and destroyed by Lawrence of Arabia and his desert raiders in the First World War, it was announced yesterday. The repaired and extended line will link Ma-an in South Jordan and Medina in Saudi Arabia. Mr Ahmed Fawzi, head of the Jordanian side of the committee for the restoration of the railway, said that 126,000 sleepers and 2000 tons of railway lines had arrived in Jordan. A British firm, Martin Cowley, Ltd., will repair 524 miles of the line.

The work is expected to be completed in April, 1968, at a cost of nearly £8 million.
