Clay Cleared Of Order
(N.Z. Press Asm—Copyright) MIAMI (Florida), Sept. 18. The world heavyweight champion, Cassius Clay, has been cleared of a July 29 contempt of court order after posting 50,000 U.S. dollars to guarantee regular alimony payments to his former wife, Sonji. An order clearing Clay was signed in Miami by Judge Harold Spaet, after he was informed by a Chicago bank that Clay had posted the money.
Sonji will receive 1250 dollars a month in alimony for 10 years under a divorce settlement reached earlier this year.
The champion will receive interest on the money, but will not be able to touch the principal or to use it as collateral for a loan.
