RAID BY F.B.I.
12 Whites Arrested (N.Z. Press Assn. —Copyright) GRENADA (Mississippi), September 18. Federal agents arrested 12 white men yesterday and sought another on charges of conspiring to attack and beat “with clubs, chains, sticks and other weapons” Negro students who tried to attend newly integrated schools in Grenada. The 12 men were picked up in a swift raid by F. 8.1. agents after a Federal agent signed a complaint in nearby Oxford, charging them with conspiracy against the rights of citizens. Federal agents obtained the warrants after about 60 Negro students were attacked and beaten by whites last Monday and Tuesday when they tried to enter newly integrated schools. Negro leaders said 33 children were hurt, including one 12-year-old boy whose leg was broken.
