FUNDS FOR CAMP

Boys’ Brigade Trek The official measurement of the two courses for the Boys’ Brigade-Life Boys trek to the held on October 15 was completed on Saturday. Sponsors' cards for the trek are being printed today and will be circulated to members this week. The Boys’ Brigade course is 25 miles on a course over ♦he Summit road and the Life Boys’ is 10 miles and goes up the Rapaki track and down the Bridle Path. The procedure for the sponsoring of the boys on the trek is that each member of the movement in the Canterbury battalion will be issued with a trek sponsor’s card- He will invite persons to sponsor him on the trek. The minimum rate is 3d a mile the boy completes. The New Zealand record is held by an Auckland Boys’ Brigade member, Alan Lepper, who was sponsored on an Auckland brigade trek at the rate of 29s Id a mile. Each boy will be required to have a minimum of 12 sponsors.

When a sponsor agrees to sponsor a boy he will be asked to sign the card and fill in the rate at which he is sponsoring the boy. No money is given until the trek is over and the boy returns with the card which will have the distance he covered recorded and the amount promised. About 1000 boys are expected to compete and raise about £lBOO for the development of the new Waipara camp site, which is expected to cost about £15,000.
