Alias Tamarillo
The Tree Tomatoes will be going abroad next year, travelling under an assumed name. The Meat Producers’ Board tried to put a stop to this sort of thing when all New Zealand Lambs would pose as products of Canterbury farms. And the Chinese Gooseberries, who had never been to China, were briefly called the Kiwi Fruits. If, as the Tamarillos, the travellers are embraced by wealthy families overseas, we may never see them here again. Good luck to them. We would miss them, though thenconnexions here might thrive as overseas remittance men and boost our export trade. We shall be content to chill, and slice, and marinade any left-over poor, red-faced relations, the common Tree Tomatoes’ No-one can begrudge other people finding out what they have been missing. They will pay for it; and names do matter where money is concerned.
