The “policy decision” of race organisers and fuel companies to end “big banger” sports-car racing in Britain is under fire from motoring magazines and racing enthusiasts, and has made little impression on car makers. Further, the decision has been made to seem even more foolish by the introduction of the CanadianAmerican “CanAm” series of sports-car races, which has drawn entries from both Lolas and McLarenElvas from Britain. Felday has just announced a new four-wheel drive 500 b.h.p. V 8 sports-racer, and a Repco-Brabham sportsracer will soon be completed. >’■;

Lotus and the Italian firm of De Tomaso have announced a new 5.5 litre V 8 racing engine which they have developed. It is based on the racing Ford VB, but has a different block made of light alloy, bigger bearings, and other changes. The Spring Grove racing saloon car championship in Britain has been won by N. Brittan in his Alan Fraser team Hillman Imp, with A. Peer (1800 c.c. Anglia) second and D. Merfield (Cortina V 8) third.
The champion South African drivers in the 1966 season have been announced. J. Love (Tasman Cooper Climax) is the singleseater champion, R. Olthoff (McLaren-Elva) has won the sports category, and B. van Rooyen (Ford Mustang) the saloon category.
