NEW SEVERN BRIDGE
Queen Ignored Welsh Threats / ZA'.Z.P.A. * LONDON, September 9. The Queen opened a new mile-long bridge across the River Severn yesterday, ignoring threats from Welsh extremists to blow it up. Accompanied by Prince Philip, the Queen rode over the new bridge, which links England and Wales, after officially declaring it open. Armed guards mingled with crowds at both ends of the bridge after police received telephoned threats from persons who said they would dynamite the bridge. 1 Welsh extremists regard the bridge as an English intrusion into Welsh life. For 2s 6d the motorist can now shorten by 50 miles the normal West Country route to Wales through Gloucestershire.
