Miss R. Willis Wins Third Ski-ing Title

For the third successive year. Miss R. Willis won the Canterbury junior girls’ combined ski racing championship, at Temple Basin ski field during the weekend.

A. T. Everist won the boys’ combined title after D. Stewart, who was also after the hattrick, had crashed at the last gate on his last run when appearing certain to win.

Miss Willis was in magnificent form and was a class apart from the other entrants. However, Misses V. Oddie, Judy Stevenson and S. Willis all contested the minor places.

The over-all stndard in the boys’ races was very high, but D. Stewart was the best racer. T. Parr, R. Milson and M. O’Brien all raced particularly well but Everist was the most consistent runner and was second to Stewart in the slalom.

T. Stewart was the best of the under-15 boys’ while Misses Judy Stevenson and S. Willis dominated the under-15 girls’ events.

In the fast snow conditions, good, open courses were set for all races and the week-end showed the benefit of the junior scholarship week held 10 days previously.
