Bishop's Chair
A bishop’s chair in memory of Mr W. Balch, who was headmaster at the Shirley Primary School from 1916 to 1931, was dedicated at St. Stephen’s Anglican Church, Shirley, during the family service yesterday morning. The chair was a gift from Mr Balch’s widow, who still lives in Christchurch. After the dedication by the Rev. M. J. Goodall, it was placed in the sanctuary. The chair was designed by Mr G. Lucking and built by Mr I. Pitt, both of Christchurch. Mr Goodall, minister of St. Stephen’s Church, said that Mr Balch had been closely associated with children all his I life.
