Wool Sale Average

Wool sold at the first Christchurch wool sale of the new selling season last week averaged 38.366 d per lb, according to figures for the sale issued last evening by Mr M. C. Tipping, secretary of the Christchurch Woolbrokers’ Association.

This is about (d per lb lower than for the corresponding sale last year when the average was 39.135 d. This year the amount of wool sold at this sale increased markedly to 19,001 bales or 6,368,1471 b from 14,803 bales or 4.919,5181 b in August, 1965. Consequently, although the average price was down and the return a bale was £53 Ils 6d, compared with £54 3s lOd last year, total proceeds rose from £802,181 14s 7d last year to £1,018,000 14s 6d last week.
