E. A. English Had Long Sporting Career

(N.Z P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) LONDON. England's oldest firstclass cricketer, E. A. (Ted) English, has died at his home at Tiverton, Devon, at the age of 102.

Although his first notable feat in cricket was the taking of five for 12 for Young Surrey against Surrey at the Oval at the age of 19, he never appeared for the connty side. Instead, he moved to Hampshire and in his second match for the county in 1898 he

achieved the satisfaction of scoring 98 against an attack that included the express bowlers, Richardson and Lockwood.

English represented Hampshire until 1901, but did not give up playing cricket until he reached the age of 65. He continued his other sporting activities until nine years before his death. He was 82 when he holed in one at the Alton golf course, and he played his last game of golf at. 91. At 93 he was beaten in the final of the Alton Conservative Club's snooker championship.
