15s Rise For Males Increases of 15s a week in minimum rates have been given to adult storemen and packers in two separate awards, by the Court of Arbitration. Agreement was reached in conciliation in both awards. The two awards are the New Zealand Storemen and Packers’ Award, and the New Zealand Fruit and Produce Stores Employees’ Award. The packers’ award gives a minimum wage to some categories of males of £l5 15s a week. Juniors receive increases of from 10s to 15s a week and workers who have attained a New Zealand Trade Certificate in automotive parts and accessories merchandising and who are en gaged upon work to which this qualification relates, will be paid 7s 6d a week extra. The packers’ award is retrospective to July 22, 1966. The fruit store workers’ award has similar increases of 10s to 15s a week for juniors. A new clause is added, allowing five minutes to all workers before ceasing work for the day for washing their hands. In lieu of two weeks’ annual holiday, shift workers regularly and continuously employed on afternoon or night shift or on three rotating shifts, shall be allowed three weeks’ annual holiday upon completion of each year’s service. The third week’s holiday may be allowed either in conjunction with or separately from the first two weeks as the employer may decide. The award is restrospective to July 23, 1966.
