Good Trial By Saturnian
"The Press” Special Service PALMERSTON NORTH. Saturnian and Roman Consul were the stars at Awapuni yesterday when they completed their final trials for Wanganui in impressive style. Saturnian jumped fast in a schooling bout over the brush double with Lordtuckey. Then they galloped a mile on the course proper, and Saturnian put much dash into his work to shade his companion over the final stages. The mile took Imin 52 2-ssec, and the last three furlongs 40 2-ssec. Saturnian is completely recovered from the bruised stifle he sustained in schooling at Ellerslie last week. He should go close in the Tally-Ho Steeplechase tomorrow. On the inside trial Roman Consul was never at top in his run over seven furlongs in Imin 32sec, the last three in 39 2-ssec. He looks at his peak for the first leg tomorrow. If Gold Mint strikes a firm track at Wanganui he could open his account. He impressed when galloping half a mile with Wee Tidings in 50 2-ssec, the last three furlongs in 37 2-ssec. Gold Mint did his work comfortably all the way. The best half-mile was credited to Both Ways, which beat Teri decisively in 48 3-ssec, the last three furlongs in 35 3-ssec. Both Ways has plenty of ability, but requires firm ground.
