The other points are: Buller 6, South Canterbury 4, Tauranga 2, South Otago 2. Canterbury A v. Whangarei Canterbury gave one of its least impressive displays when it beat Whangarei by three goals to nil. It was obvious that the team was jaded, and some very poor passing by the forwards enabled the Whangarei defence to make many interceptions. Much of Canterbury’s success has been a result of the splendid displays by S. Comer (centre half), whose skilful stickwork, sound trapping and

excellent passing make her the outstanding player of the tournament.

| A. McKenna and J. Murray have also been mainstays of the Canterbury defence. J. Paget at right half made a consistent effort to make openings for her right wing. A. Giles had to contend with some very close and at times illegal marking, but she was a threat whenever she received the ball. However, few real attempts to provide openings for her are made by her inside forwards. The other forwards were not impressive. They were slow to anticipate passes, and were also guilty of careless passing. Whangarei played with con slderable spirit, its close marking contributed to Canterbury's difficulties as did Its speed in stacking the circle on defence its best players were C. Marsh In goal, the backs and the right inner, who provided most of th* thrust In its attack. Results: Major A—Canterbury 3. Whangarei 0; Auckland B 1.
