Higgins, was eliminated in the semi-finals of the national men's singles title by the No. 6 Japanese player, T. Itagaki, At the national badminton championships in Rotorua last night. The New Zealander put up a tremendous struggle, but was beaten 15-5, 11-15, 15-11. MEN'S SINGLES j Semi-finals T. Itagaki (Japan) beat D. B. Higgins (Wellington), 15-5, Ills, 15-11; I. Kajima (Japan) beat E. Sakai, (Japan), 18-14, 15-8; M. Akiyama (Japan) beat T. Anzawa (Japan), 15 ; 7, 15-8. MEN'S DOUBLES Quarter-finals E. Sakai and T. Miyanaga (Japan) beat J. Rowe and F. Coetzer (Wellington), 15-4, 15-3. WOMEN’S SINGLES Semi-finals Miss G. Simpson (Auckland) beat Miss B. Gormack (Canterbury), 11-3, 11-5; Miss A. Glenle (Auckland) beat Miss G. Steel (Wellington), 11-3, 11-5; Miss G. Tompkins (Wellington) beat Miss M.- McFarlane (Waikato), 11-1, 11-0: Mrs V. Gow (Auckland) beat Miss L. Hetherington (Wellington). 11-1, 11-1.
