MELBOURNE, Aug. 31

More than 700 workers have been retrenched by the Australian motor-car manufacturers, General MotorsHolden.

A spokesman for General Motors-Holden in Melbourne said today that 150 men had been laid off in New South Wales, 165 in Victoria and 385 in South Australia. The reason for the retrenchments was the “prolonged decline in vehicle sales,” the spokesman said.
