APPEAL FOR CLOTHING

Annual Drive By C.0.R.5.0.

The annual C.0.R.5.0. clothing drive would be held in Christchurch, Ashburton, Rakaia, Leeston, Akaroa, Lyttelton, Kaiapoi, and Rangiora on September 17, said the district organiser (Mr G. H. Coley) yesterday. In Christchurch clothes will be collected by members of 65 primary and intermediate schools, and will be taken in trucks to the Addington Show Grounds.

Mr Coley said the clothes would be sorted by about 1500 voluntary helpers before being baled. Last year 500 bales were collected, with about 500 garments in each bale. Clothes would be sent to Korea, Hong Kong, India, Pakistan, the Middle East, Algeria, and other areas. Many letters had recently been received by C.0.R.5.0. from organisations receiving clothes sent last year. One letter received from Mrs A. Loyalka, a teacher at the Free Education School in Bombay, said: “This is to thank you good people with sincere hearts for the most precious bale of clothes that you - sent for the poor children and women of Hindi Shala and Pragati. The clothing was most useful, and there is a great shortage of food and clothes in India.

“Clothing was distributed to the most deserving, women whose husbands are blind, physically disabled, to orphan children who are learning in our school, street sweepers, and gutter cleaners.”
