OBJECTIONS LODGED
Halswell Inn Proposal A petition signed by about 400 people, and other individual objections, have been received by the Halswell County Council to a proposal by Inns of Canterbury, Ltd., to establish a licensed tavern at Sparks road. As the proposed tavern would be in a rural zone, application was made to the council for a specified planning departure. 'The council will hear the objections publicly at a meeting in the Halswell Hall on the evening of September 13. The council is trying to reduce the amount of evidence that might otherwise be given by asking the petitioners to try to confine their activities to two or three witnesses. The county chairman (Mr J. Y. Pethig) said yesterday that the applicants also had submitted a petition, in support of the application. “I understand that it contains the names of some of the people who have signed the petition of opposition,” he said.
