Country Hospital Services
Sir, —Bias towards discussions “in committee” appears to have developed on the question of hospital and medical services in North Canterbury. At its August meeting, the Amuri County Council reported a discussion in committee on medical and hospital services in the county, and the same report stated the Hospital Board had discussed these matters in committee on several occasions since 1960. The in-committee habit has now infected Waipara and
Cheviot County Councils which, in conjunction with the Amuri council, discussed medical and hospital services in their respective areas in committee a few days ago. People of these counties are grievously affected by inadequate medical and hospital services and are entitled to know what “nigger in the woodpile” necessitates secrecy in discussions on this vexed question. A specific reason for these under-cover discussions is needed. Could you inquire and supply the answer?— Yours, etc., CURIOUS. August 30, 1966.
