Boys’ Chess
The following are the results of the first round of the New Zealand schoolboys' chess championships being played in Christchurch this week.
B. Anderson (Chch.) beat P Patterson (Otago); A. Day (Auck.) beat R. Chaplin (Canty.); P. Kelly (Wellington) beat K. Bentson (Otago); R. Metge (Auck.) beat Bures (Wellington). Competing in the championships are the two top schoolboy players from each of the four main centres. B. Anderson is the defending champion. Seven rounds will be played before the competitions end on Friday.
