RUNAWAY LOADER
(N.Z. Press Association)
AUCKLAND, Aug. 29
A front-end loader careered down Grafton road, Auckland, today narrowly missing an old wooden house.
When the power steering and brakes failed the driver, Mr R. W. Allan, of Mangere, dropped the loader mechanism to try to stop the vehicle. After rounding the comer, the loader bit a parked car, turning it over, and went through a small brick wall which deflected it so that it came to rest almost parallel with the front of the house. There was superficial damage to the outside of the house.
Mr Allan escaped unhurt. The vehicle was only slightly damaged.
