(N.Z. Press Association! NELSON. The Tobacco-Growers’ Federation will ask the Government to provide long-term loans at lower interest rates through the State Advances Corporation. The annual meeting of the federation in Motueka today took this action in what members said was an endeavour to divorce growers financially from the manufacturing companies. Finance should be available on a long-term basis at low interest to give farmers a chance to pay back their present debit to manufacturers, and also pay their mortgages. The meeting of 200 growers asked the federation’s executive to seek possible amendments to the 1935 act governing the Tobacco Board administration. Members expressed their dissatisfaction at the deadlock experienced at times on the Tobacco Board.
