Must Make Trip
A refusal by the LytteltonDiamond Harbour launch service proprietor (Mr J. J. Oughton) to carry a passenger on the 9 p.m. service was discussed at a meeting of the Lyttelton Borough Council last night. Mr C. R. Atkin, a university student, said he had been refused a trip on the launch as he was not a regular passenger.
A letter from Mr Oughton, to whom the complaint had been referred, said that Mr Atkin travelled at his convenience and usually travelled by car. It seemed unfair to expect him to be taken home by launch at 9 p.m. when he was the only passenger. Cr. E. A. Camfield said that the launch time-table had been revised, but the contract had not been altered. The 9 p.m. service should be retained, even if it was for one passenger. It was decided to tell Mr Oughton that the service should be run, and to ask him if he wanted to discuss a time-table alteration.
