FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—A disturbed southerly airstream between the low pressure trough to the north and the ridge of high pressure to the south-west flows on to New Zealand. Forecast:

Canterbury.—Fresh southerly winds; showers persisting about Banks Peninsula and North Canterbury till this afternoon; elsewhere mainly cloudy; temperatures cold.

Marlborough and Nelson. —Strong southerly winds in Cook Strait, slowly moderating; elsewhere moderate and rather variable; cloudy and cool. Kaikoura coast.—Fresh southerly winds; cloudy and cold with showers. Buller and Westland.—Light variable winds; fine with mild afternoon temperatures; frosts tonight. Outlook. —All districts: partly cloudy. CHRISTCHURCH READINGS
