‘TRUMP CARD’
Suharto Waiting (N.Z Press Assn.—Copyright > DJAKARTA, August 21. General Suharto is biding his time and waiting patiently to play his trump card to depose President Sukarno as the head of Indonesia, according to Seymour Topping, chief correspondent in South-east Asia for the “New York Times." In a special article on Indonesia, Topping said that General Suharto is gradually whittling down President Sukarno’s power. “When General Suharto feels that It is safe to move he may play a trump card he is holding, discredit the President and then depose him.” Topping said that if President Sukarno continues what the Army has described as his obstructionist tactics, most observers believe that General Suharto will act to depose him before the end of the year. “If not by then, certainly before the general elections to be held before July, 1968,” Topping wrote.
