Fendalton Loses Winter Tennis Final Again
Fendalton was beaten tn the Anal of the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Associations winter inter-club competition for the third time at Wilding Park yesterday. Opawa, the winner of section 11. beat the section I winner. Fendalton, by fiive matches to one. Last year Fendalton lost to Av-onside 11.
The points of teams at the end of the competition were: Section I. —Fendalton 101. Edgeware 79, Avonside K 77, Spreydon 62 North Linwood 50, Shirley 40. Sumner 38. Section IL —Opawa 93, Av-on-side I 77, Avonside 111 63. Riccarton Domain 47, Woolston 28, Beckenham 20, Redcliffs 8.
In yesterday’s final Fendalton could win one of the mixed doubles only, although the Fendalton womens doubles pair held a match point in the third Fendalton v. Opawa Men s doubles. —J. Adams and E. Simpson lost to H. C. Hill and S. F. Clarke. 2-6, 6-5. 4-6. Womens doubles. —Mrs M. Keys and Mrs J. McLellan lost to Mrs B. Lee and Mrs C. Jackson, 6-5, 1-6, 5-6. Mixed doubles. —Adams and Mrs Keys beat Hill and Mrs Lee, 9-6: lost to Clarke and Mrs Jackson-. 5-9: Simpson and Mrs McLellan lost to Clarke and Mrs Jackson. 2-9: lost to Hill and Mrs Lee, 5-9.
