ACADEMY IN CHILE
N.Z. Botanist Made Member Dr. E. J. Godley, director of the Botany Division of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research at Lincoln, has been made a corresponding or overseas member of the Chilean Academy of Natural Science because of the interest he has shown in Chilean botany. He has received advice of this from the president and secretary of the academy. In 1958-1959 Dr. Godley was the botanist with an expedition from the Royal Society of London, supported by the Royal Society of New Zealand, which went to southern Chile. There were three New Zealanders in the group of five.
Dr. Godley has since published several papers on the botany of southern Chile and one of these has been published in the Annals of the Chilean Academy of Natural Science. Further papers have still to be published. He has also kept in touch with Chilean botanists.
“It is a nice gesture.” said Dr. Godley, commenting on the appointment.
