JET CRASHES IN BACKYARD.—Smoke rising from the wreckage in the 20ft crater ripped out by a crashing Sabre jet aircraft in the backyard of the home of Mrs Irene Johnstone in the Junction suburb of Newcastle, New South Wales. Her son, Mr K. Johnstone, had parked the car seen in the foreground only a few minutes before the jet crashed into it. Pilot Officer W. W. Goddard, aged 20, of Perth, ejected himself at the last moment, but was killed when he crashed through the roof, ceiling, and floor of a nearby house.
