Vigour Fit At Hastings
"The Press" Special Service HASTINGS. Vigour and Rahunui pleased in their final gallops yesterday for the Howard Booth Memorial Handicap at Tauherenikau tomorrow. Both are very fit. Vigour appeals because the track is almost certain to be very heavy. Others to work well yesterday included Lucky Rebel and Red Shadow. On the course proper, which was deep and heavy and where the trestles were the regulation distance out. Hahumn (B S. Dodds) worked steadMy around to the three furlongs and sprinted from three m 41 4-ssec. He disappointed at Hastings but will be better suited by the heavier ground he is likely to encounter at the week-end. Red Shadow (B. S. Dodds) recorded a good performance when paired with Fair Deal (M. Donoghue) for seven furlongs Fair Deal was clear to the straight. Then Red Shadow, a much improved high-weight prospect, joined him and headed him at the line. On the plough. Vigour (J. T. Anderson) recorded Im'n 23 3-5 sec for six furlongs, the last three in 40sec. He is in hard condition for tomorrow. Emir (R. Grantham) worked alongside Lucky Rebel (J. T. Anderson) over half a mile tn 54sec. the final three in 40 3-5 sec. Emir has been disappointing. Lucky Rebel resumed last week and could be prominent in the sprint at Tauherenikau.
