REQUEST TO GOVT.
Boeing For N.A.C. (N Z Press Association) WELLINGTON, Aug. 18. N.A.C. has recommended the Boeing 737 to the Government as the replacement aircraft for its Viscounts. This was confirmed today by the chairman of N.A.C. (Sir Andrew McKee) after a meeting of the corporation’s board of directors. Sir Andrew McKee said that although no letter of intent had yet been sent to Boeing the 737 was a clear winner under the headings of economy, capacity, and performance. “In the purchase price alone, the Boeing 737 will save £1.9 million pounds in overseas funds," said Sir Andrew McKee, “In its first year of operation it will show a profit of some £250,000.” The Minister of Civil Aviation (Mr McAlpine) said- “ This has all been said before at various times and places, but as far as I know it is factual.”
