Games T.V. Films Upset Athletes

The Canterbury Athletics Centre last evening decided to write to the New Zealand Broadcasting Corporation expressing dissatisfaction over the television coverage of the Commonwealth Games in .Jamaica.

The centre felt that the I 8.8. C. coverage was no better than the Australian Broadcasting Commission’s coverage of the Olympic Games at Tokyo in 1964. Members expressed their disappointment that the N.Z.B.C. had not sent a television team to Jamaica and agreed that all New Zealand sports, not only athletics, had suffered.

Little had been seen of New Zealanders competing, the emphasis being on British athletes just as Australians had dominated the Tokyo films.

Dinner.— The presentation dinner for Mr H. I. Austad will be held at Russley Lodge on September 9. The centre will in-

vite several of Mr Austad's associates during his 41 years as Canterbury’s delegate on the New Zealand associaton.

Approval.— Mr E. Lunn reported that a meeting between himself, Mr J.- C. Harbut, and a sub-committee of the Canterbury Rugby Union had agreed to allow the Canterbury Softball Association the use of Rugby Park to hold the national inter-provincial Beatty Cup tournament over the New Year period. Change of Name. — The centre decided to forward a request from the Christchurch Technical College Amateur Athletic and Cross-Country Club to the N.Z.A.A.A. The club wishes to delete the word “college" from its name.

Date Verified. The Otago centre has agreed to December 3 as the date of the triangular meeting at Christchurch.
