Jaycees To Keep Plots
When the Waimairi County Council last night accepted a tender' of £325 from the Papa-nui-Belfast Jaycees to maintain the garden plots at the Bishopdale shopping centre, it was told that the money would be spent on some amenity at Bishopdale. The contract, which covers the maintenance of 13,000 square feet of garden plots, will run for a year from September 1. The Jaycees will do the work to the council’s satisfaction, and provide their own tools.
The Jaycees have agreed that no one will be paid. The net profit will be spent on something nominated by the Jaycees and acceptable to the council.
The County Engineer (Mr I. Calvert) said that if the council did the work, it would cost about £375.
