TAURANGA BETTING
Club, Course Records (N.Z. Press Association) TAURANGA. A course record for betting was established at the Whakatane Racing Club’s meeting at Tauranga last Saturday. The £252,501 10s handled through on and off-course betting beat the previous best by more than £2OOO. It was the first time in the history of racing at Tauranga that £250.000 had been exceeded. The previous best figure was established in April, 1964. when the club handled 8249,181 10s. Two other records were broken for the 10-year-eld Whakatane Racing Club last Saturday The on-course turnover of £73.271 was the club's highest. Off-course betting, at £179,229, was another record.
