Labour ‘Getting Into Top Gear’

(Hew Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, August 15. The Labour Party was getting into top gear to be ready for any challenge at the General Election, Mr N. V. Douglas, president of the Labour Party, said on Saturday.

“Whether this clash comes early or late—and we still do not know when the election is—l am confident our organisation will be ready,” he said. “Affairs in our organisation are far more advanced than they have been for many years. From Kaikohe right down to Invercargill, the Labour movement is in excel

lent heart with a quiet enthusiasm for the job to come. There is a measure of assurance and confidence among members and supporters.” Mr Douglas said it was heartening to find so many branch organisations “well on the road” for the General Election. It was a demonstration of the strong will existing among members that 1966 was .the year for a Labour victory at the polls.
