Dome For New Observatory
The 16ft dome for its observatory will be taken to the Canterbury Astronomical Society’s site at West Melton tomorrow, and on Saturday members will lay the track for the dome on top of a concreteblock building. Members hope to raise the dome on to the building with a crane on August 27. The steel structure of the dome was fabricated by G. Cillekens and Son, of Prebbleton, and will be taken to West Melton by truck.
The society will be using a 16in telescope in the dome. The building under the dome contains a dark-room and vestibule.
