NICKEL IN W.A.
Western Min, Find (N.Z. Press Aon.—Copyright > MELBOURNE, Aug. 9. Western Mining Corporation has encountered ore assaying up to 12 per cent nickel in its latest drill holes on the Kambalda nickel prospect in Western Australia. The directors say in their latest progress report that drilling “is continuing down to the dip of the ore body and that there is at present no evidence to suggest that limits have been reached.” The report gives the results of 10 drill holes. The directors say that the planning and design necessary for the establishment—initially of a 100,000 tons a year mining operation at Kambalda and for an ore concentrating plant—are in progress. Directors say 142,935 tons of lump iron ore were produced in the 14 weeks to June 28. During that period 90,485 tons of ore were shipped, making 116,677 tons exported since shipments began in March. The directors say diamond drilling further tested the West Doora and Bertallen sections of the Doora anomaly. In West Doora, a new hole made significant copper intersections up to 4.39 per cent assay over 12 feet.
