A rolling start will again be used for the Indianapolis 500 next year, but the pace car will be driven by a retired racing driver so that the speed of the rolling lap will be higher. Sj Sji S=! Two German firms, Porsche and B.M.W m are reported to be preparing cars for next year’s 1600 c.c. formula two. * « «s The Riley Car Club’s recent Sunday afternoon rally was won by I. TaylorMrs Taylor (1949 2.5 litre) from C. Hunt-Mrs Hunt (1950 1.5 litre), with B. Winder-Mrs Winder (1935 Mentone 12/6) third. Fourth place went to P. King-A. Andrews (1937 1.5 litre Continental) with K. Boucher-Mrs Boucher (1951 2.5 litre) fifth. The 43-mile event attracted 11 entries, and was in the Tai TapuLincoln area.

The recent German rally was won by a Porsche, with an Alfa-Romeo second. The Minis of P. Hopkirk-C. Nash and A. Fall-H. Liddon retired with oil starvation. The single works Lotus Cortina also retired. * * *

The F.I.A. has confirmed that Ford GT Mark II cars have won the 1966 prototype sports car championship and that Ford GT 40s have won the international manufacturers’ championship for sports cars. Last year the Shelby Ford Cobras became the first American cars to win a world GT production championship.
