EXPORTS BY AIR

Farmers Back Inquiries (N Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 28. The Dominion conference of Federated Farmers today expressed support for an investigation into the use of airfreight for primary products. Mr M. G. Hewitt (Waikato) said the definite prospects of air-freighting would give New Zealand the opportunity to combat increases in shipping freight charges. At present New Zealand produced the best lamb in the world but sold it in the worst manner—frozen. Fresh steak was now selling in Hong Kong for 14s per lb, while frozen steak brought only 7s per lb. Other speakers pointed out that air-freighting would, in a few years, enable New Zealand to transport 250 tons of produce in one aircraft to the United Kingdom within 24 hours.
