LATE CASH BETTING

T.A.B. Refusal ‘Scandalous’ (N.Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN. The Totalisator Agency Board’s decision not to handle cash betting in agencies after 7.30 p.m. has been described as “scandalous” by Mr J. G. Barnes, the vice-president of the Forbury Park Trotting Club. Mr Barnes was commenting on a northern report which said the ruling would become effective from the start of the 1966-67 season. Main offices and telephone betting will not be affected. According to the northern report, Mr A. J. Nicoll, of Ashburton, the chairman of the T.A.8., said the decision had been made after a Dominion-wide survey. The survey disclosed that the amount of betting done with agencies after 7.30 p.m. was “negligible,” said Mr Nicoll. “I wouldn’t be convinced of this until I have seen the figures,” said Mr Barnes. “This is a wrong move and I don’t like it. I would think that some effort would have been made to extend betting facilities, not reduce them.”
