American Plane And Mouse Collide
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) LANGLEY AIR FORCE BASE (Virginia), July 28. Tactical Air Command at Langley Air Force base yesterday reported a mid-air collision between one of its planes and a mouse. The plane, flown by Captain Robert Carter of the 346th Troop Carrier Squadron on temporary duty in France, emerged unscathed. The mouse was sucked into one of the aircraft's engines. Captain Carter reported the incident on an official Air Force return headed “Bird
Strike Form,” The Air Force does not have a special form for recording collisions between planes and mice. The captain reported: “While approximately 1000 feet in the air on the approach to Rhein Main (air base in West Germany), the crew observed an eagle approaching seemingly for a head-on collision. The bird was carrying a mouse. “The aircraft could not be veered since it was in a controlled final approach. Just prior to an inevitable midair collision with the eagle, the bird pulled up and released the mouse directly into the number two engine.”
