Accepting Up To £ N.Z.S
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 27. Air New Zealand stewards have been told to accept New Zealand currency up to £5 on overseas flights.
This was announced by the airline’s general manager (Mr F. A. Reeves) when he was asked about a statement by Nr A. H. Nordmeyer (Opp.,
Island Bay) in Parliament that a traveller flying by Air New Zealand from New Zealand could not get a drink if he could only pay for it in New Zealand currency. Mr Reeves said he did not think the incident which Mr Nordmeyer mentioned had happened on an Air New Zealand flight “We have had instances before of people confusing our flights with other airlines,” said Mr Reeves. “This did not occur on any flight I was on,” said Mr Nordmeyer this evening. “It oc-
curred on an Air New Zealand flight from Auckland to Hong Kong which my wife was on. “A woman sitting next to her was refused a drink when she tendered New Zealand currency. I am quite sure this occurred. It corresponds with what I have heard from travellers and firms’ representatives. “You are allowed to take New Zealand currency, £5 of it, out of the country—but apparently this is merely so you can still have it in your pocket when you return.”
