STEWARD IN BAR

Self-Service Lasts Week (N.Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN, July 26. A steward will now serve customers in the "selfservice” bar at the Southern Cross Hotel, Dunedin, the assistant national secretary of the Hotel Workers’ Union, Mr L. N. Short, announced tonight. This was decided after Mr Short met the chairman of directors of the hotel, Sir Leonard Wright, and the acting manager of the hotel, Mr B. Mee, today. After amicable discussions the hotel had decided to place a steward in the bar to serve customers, Mr Short said.

The new bar, which has been open for a week, has been available only to selected people who have been issued with a key. They paid for their drinks at a till inside the bar.
