Civil Defence Course A civil defence residential course will be held at Lincoln College from August 23 to 25 to instruct senior welfare officers in the general organisation for civil defence, with emphasis on the welfare centre at local level. The course is primarily designed for women members of welfare groups which have accepted responsibility for welfare duties within local civil defence plans, although nominations are being accepted from men with similar duties. About 90 persons from throughout the South Island will attend. The programme from 9 a.m. to 8.15 p.m. daily, includes lectures, films and syndicate discussion periods, and a visit to Burnham Military Camp for a demonstration of emergency cooking, field hygiene and sanitation.

Accommodation expenses at the college are being met by the Ministry of Civil Defence, and travelling expenses by the local authorities making the nominations.
