Heavy Frosts At Week-end
Christchurch had one of its heaviest frosts of the winter yesterday when 14 degrees was recorded at Harewood. On Saturday at Harewood there was a frost of 12 degrees.
i The frost at the Botanic] Gardens on both days was; nine degrees. The heaviest: frosts previously recorded were 12 degrees at Harewood on June 30 and July 12. The weather at the weekend was fine and sunny, with light variable winds. A maximum temperature of 46 degrees was recorded at Harewood at 3 p.m. yesterday. The temperature at Harewood at 6 a.m. yesterday was 25 degrees. At 9 a.m. it was : still 25 degrees but by noon it had risen to 41 degrees. i The temperature on the . Government Life building , gauge at 4.30 p.m. was 47 de.igrees.
Rangiora had its heaviest frost of the winter yesterday —one of 15.7 degrees. This was 1.7 deg. more than the previous heaviest on July 12. The frost yesterday equalled the heaviest of last winter, on July 4. These two were the most severe since one of 16 degrees in 1961. Hanmer Springs had heavy frosts on both Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday morning 21.9 degrees were recorded and yesterday morn-‘ i ing temperatures had dropped for a frost of 27.6. I deg. Frosts of 15.7 degrees were recorded in Ashburton on Saturday and again yesterday i morning. V
